How Zoledronic Acid is given
IV infusion, given by a healthcare professional. When your prescriber agrees it can be given at home, we send a skilled nurse from an accredited nursing agency to give it.
Before you start
Before the first dose, your prescriber may ask for:
- a blood test of kidney function (creatinine) before each dose
- a blood test for calcium; low blood calcium and other mineral problems must be treated first
- a mouth exam, and for people with cancer or other risk factors, a dental exam with any needed dental care before starting
- a check that you have had enough fluids (are well hydrated)
