Xifaxan (rifaximin)

Filled with a prescription and delivered free to your door, with help on prior authorization.

Xifaxan is an antibiotic (a rifamycin). It blocks an enzyme bacteria need to make proteins, which stops them from growing. Very little of it passes from the gut into the blood.

MedRx Infusion can fill Xifaxan with a prescription and deliver it free to your door.

What Xifaxan is prescribed for

  • Travelers' diarrhea: adults and children 12 years and older with travelers' diarrhea caused by certain E. coli bacteria (noninvasive strains). It should not be used for diarrhea with fever or blood in the stool, or diarrhea caused by other germs.
  • Hepatic encephalopathy (HE): adults, to lower the chance that overt HE (confusion and other brain problems caused by severe liver disease) comes back.
  • Irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea (IBS-D): adults with IBS-D (a gut condition that causes belly pain and loose, frequent stools).

A prescription is required. Your prescriber decides whether Xifaxan is right for you.
