Venofer (iron sucrose)

Filled with a prescription and delivered free to your door, with help on prior authorization.

Venofer is an iron replacement medicine given into a vein. The body uses its iron to make hemoglobin (the part of red blood cells that carries oxygen).

MedRx Infusion can fill Venofer with a prescription and deliver it free to your door.

What Venofer is prescribed for

  • Iron deficiency anemia with chronic kidney disease (CKD): adults with CKD, whether or not they are on dialysis; also children 2 years and older with CKD who need ongoing (maintenance) iron treatment.

A prescription is required. Your prescriber decides whether Venofer is right for you.

How Venofer is given

IV infusion, given by a healthcare professional. When your prescriber agrees it can be given at home, we send a skilled nurse from an accredited nursing agency to give it.

Before you start

Before the first dose, your prescriber may ask for:

  • questions about any past reactions to iron given by vein or by shot
  • blood tests of your hemoglobin and iron levels; it is not given to people who already have too much iron (iron overload)

Read the Medication Guide and the full Venofer prescribing information, and ask your prescriber or our pharmacists about side effects. Our pharmacists are on call 24 hours a day.
