Uplizna (inebilizumab-cdon)
Filled with a prescription and delivered free to your door, with help on prior authorization.
Uplizna is a biologic medicine called a monoclonal antibody (a lab-made protein). It attaches to a marker called CD19 on certain immune cells (B cells) and lowers their number, which doctors think is how it works in the conditions it treats.
MedRx Infusion can fill Uplizna with a prescription and deliver it free to your door.
What Uplizna is prescribed for
- Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD): adults with NMOSD (an immune disease that harms the nerves of the eyes and spinal cord) who test positive for anti-aquaporin-4 (AQP4) antibodies.
- Immunoglobulin G4-related disease (IgG4-RD): adults with IgG4-related disease (an immune disease that can cause swelling and scarring in one or more organs).
- Generalized myasthenia gravis (gMG): adults with generalized myasthenia gravis (an immune disease that causes muscle weakness) who test positive for anti-acetylcholine receptor (AChR) or anti-muscle-specific tyrosine kinase (MuSK) antibodies.
A prescription is required. Your prescriber decides whether Uplizna is right for you.
How Uplizna is given
IV infusion, given by a healthcare professional.
The label calls for close supervision by an experienced healthcare professional, medicine beforehand to lower the risk of infusion reactions, and at least an hour of observation after each infusion. Your prescriber decides where you get it. When it can be given at home, we send a skilled nurse from an accredited nursing agency.
Before you start
Before the first dose, your prescriber may ask for:
- a blood test for hepatitis B
- a blood test of your immunoglobulin (antibody) levels
- a check for tuberculosis (TB), including a test for TB that is hidden in the body (latent TB)
- a review of your vaccines, because any vaccines you need should be given at least 4 weeks before you start (live vaccines are not recommended during treatment or until your B cells recover)
- a check for any active infection before every infusion
Read the Medication Guide and the full Uplizna prescribing information, and ask your prescriber or our pharmacists about side effects. Our pharmacists are on call 24 hours a day.
