Tygacil (tigecycline)
Filled with a prescription and delivered free to your door, with help on prior authorization.
Tygacil is an antibiotic (a medicine used to treat infections caused by bacteria) in the tetracycline group. It stops bacteria from making the proteins they need to grow.
MedRx Infusion can fill Tygacil with a prescription and deliver it free to your door.
What Tygacil is prescribed for
- Complicated skin and skin structure infections: adults 18 and older with complicated skin and skin structure infections (serious infections of the skin and the tissue under it); it is not for diabetic foot infections.
- Complicated intra-abdominal infections: adults 18 and older with complicated intra-abdominal infections (serious infections inside the belly).
- Community-acquired bacterial pneumonia: adults 18 and older with community-acquired bacterial pneumonia (a lung infection caught outside a hospital); it is not for pneumonia caught in a hospital or on a breathing machine (ventilator).
A prescription is required. Your prescriber decides whether Tygacil is right for you.
How Tygacil is given
IV infusion, given by a healthcare professional. When your prescriber agrees it can be given at home, we send a skilled nurse from an accredited nursing agency to give it.
Before you start
Before the first dose, your prescriber may ask for:
- a lab test of a sample, such as blood or fluid from the infection (a culture), to find the germ and the antibiotics it is sensitive to
- blood tests of how well your blood clots, including fibrinogen (a clotting protein)
Important safety information: This medicine has a boxed warning: in studies, more people died while getting Tygacil than while getting other antibiotics, and the reason is not known. Tygacil should be used only when other treatments are not suitable.
Read the Medication Guide and the full Tygacil prescribing information, and ask your prescriber or our pharmacists about side effects. Our pharmacists are on call 24 hours a day.
