Rituxan (rituximab)

Filled with a prescription and delivered free to your door, with help on prior authorization.

Rituxan is a biologic medicine. It attaches to a protein called CD20 on B cells (a type of white blood cell) and helps the body remove those cells; Ruxience is a biosimilar (a highly similar version) of Rituxan.

MedRx Infusion can fill Rituxan with a prescription and deliver it free to your door. This page also covers Ruxience (rituximab-pvvr).

What Rituxan is prescribed for

  • Low-grade or follicular non-Hodgkin's lymphoma: adults with CD20-positive B-cell lymphoma: alone when it came back or did not respond to treatment; with first chemotherapy, then alone as maintenance; or alone after CVP chemotherapy if the lymphoma did not grow.
  • Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma: adults with untreated CD20-positive diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, given with CHOP or similar chemotherapy.
  • Mature B-cell lymphoma and leukemia in children: children 6 months and older with untreated, advanced CD20-positive diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, Burkitt or Burkitt-like lymphoma, or mature B-cell acute leukemia, given with chemotherapy; Rituxan only, not Ruxience.
  • Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL): adults with CD20-positive CLL, whether or not it was treated before, given with fludarabine and cyclophosphamide chemotherapy.
  • Rheumatoid arthritis: adults with moderately to severely active rheumatoid arthritis when one or more TNF blocker medicines did not work well enough, used together with methotrexate.
  • Granulomatosis with polyangiitis and microscopic polyangiitis: adults and children 2 years and older with GPA or MPA (types of blood vessel swelling called vasculitis), used together with steroid medicines (glucocorticoids).
  • Pemphigus vulgaris: adults with moderate to severe pemphigus vulgaris (a disease that causes blisters on the skin and in the mouth).

A prescription is required. Your prescriber decides whether Rituxan is right for you.

How Rituxan is given

IV infusion, given by a healthcare professional. When your prescriber agrees it can be given at home, we send a skilled nurse from an accredited nursing agency to give it.

Before you start

Before the first dose, your prescriber may ask for:

  • a blood test for hepatitis B
  • a complete blood count, including platelets
  • a check that your vaccines are up to date

Important safety information: This medicine has a boxed warning about deadly infusion reactions, severe skin and mouth reactions, hepatitis B coming back (reactivation), and PML (a rare, deadly brain infection).

Read the Medication Guide and the full Rituxan prescribing information, and ask your prescriber or our pharmacists about side effects. Our pharmacists are on call 24 hours a day.
