Otezla (apremilast)

Otezla is a tablet that blocks an enzyme inside cells called PDE4 (phosphodiesterase 4). Exactly how this helps the conditions it treats is not well known.

What Otezla is prescribed for

Psoriatic arthritis: adults and children 6 years and older who weigh at least 20 kg (about 44 pounds) with active psoriatic arthritis (joint swelling and pain linked to psoriasis).
Plaque psoriasis: adults with plaque psoriasis (a skin condition with thick, scaly patches) who may be treated with light therapy (phototherapy) or with pills or shots (systemic therapy); and children 6 years and older who weigh at least 20 kg (about 44 pounds) with moderate to severe plaque psoriasis who may be treated the same way.
Oral ulcers of Behçet's disease: adults with mouth sores (oral ulcers) caused by Behçet's disease (a rare disease that causes swelling of blood vessels).

A prescription is required. Your prescriber decides whether Otezla is right for you.

How Otezla is given

Tablet or capsule by mouth, given by you. We ship it to your door.

Storage: Store Otezla tablets below 86°F. Otezla XR tablets are stored at room temperature, between 68°F and 77°F.

Insurance and prior authorization

Health plans often require prior authorization for Otezla. Our intake team checks your coverage and works with your prescriber’s office on the paperwork before your first delivery.

The manufacturer runs a support program, Amgen SupportPlus, that may help eligible patients with costs and access.
