Meropenem is an antibiotic (a medicine used to treat infections caused by bacteria) in a group called carbapenems. It stops bacteria from building their cell walls, which they need to survive.

MedRx Infusion can fill Meropenem with a prescription and deliver it free to your door.

What Meropenem is prescribed for

Complicated skin and skin structure infections: adults and children 3 months and older with complicated skin and skin structure infections (serious infections of the skin and the tissue under it).
Complicated intra-abdominal infections: adults and children with complicated appendicitis (a burst or abscessed appendix) and peritonitis (infection of the lining of the belly).
Bacterial meningitis: children 3 months and older with bacterial meningitis (an infection of the lining around the brain and spinal cord).

A prescription is required. Your prescriber decides whether Meropenem is right for you.

How Meropenem is given

IV infusion, given by a healthcare professional. When your prescriber agrees it can be given at home, we send a skilled nurse from an accredited nursing agency to give it.

Before you start

Before the first dose, your prescriber may ask for:

questions about any past allergic reactions to penicillins, cephalosporins or other beta-lactam antibiotics (a large family of antibiotics)
a blood test to check how well your kidneys work
