Ibandronate (ibandronate sodium)

Filled with a prescription and delivered free to your door, with help on prior authorization.

Ibandronate injection is a bisphosphonate, a bone medicine given into a vein. It slows down the cells that break down bone (osteoclasts).

MedRx Infusion can fill Ibandronate with a prescription and deliver it free to your door.

What Ibandronate is prescribed for

  • Osteoporosis after menopause: women past menopause who have osteoporosis (thin, weak bones), to treat it.

A prescription is required. Your prescriber decides whether Ibandronate is right for you.

How Ibandronate is given

IV infusion, given by a healthcare professional. When your prescriber agrees it can be given at home, we send a skilled nurse from an accredited nursing agency to give it.

Storage: If you keep it at home before your visit, store it at room temperature, 68°F to 77°F. Short periods between 59°F and 86°F are OK.

Before you start

Before the first dose, your prescriber may ask for:

  • a blood test of kidney function (creatinine) before each dose
  • a mouth exam
  • treatment of low blood calcium, low vitamin D or other bone and mineral problems first

Read the Medication Guide and the full Ibandronate prescribing information, and ask your prescriber or our pharmacists about side effects. Our pharmacists are on call 24 hours a day.
