Gamunex-C, immune globulin injection (human)

Filled with a prescription and delivered free to your door, with help on prior authorization.

Gamunex-C is an immune globulin medicine made from human plasma (the liquid part of blood). It gives your body IgG antibodies, which are proteins the immune system uses to fight germs. How it works in some conditions is not fully known.

MedRx Infusion can fill Gamunex-C with a prescription and deliver it free to your door.

What Gamunex-C is prescribed for

  • Primary humoral immunodeficiency (PI): people 2 years and older with PI (a group of conditions, often inherited, in which the body does not make enough working antibodies); by vein or under the skin.
  • Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP): adults and children with ITP (a condition with too few platelets, the blood cells that help blood clot), to raise platelet counts to prevent bleeding or to allow surgery; by vein only.
  • Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP): adults with CIDP (chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy, a nerve condition that causes weakness and numbness in the arms and legs), including ongoing (maintenance) treatment to prevent relapse; by vein only.

A prescription is required. Your prescriber decides whether Gamunex-C is right for you.

How Gamunex-C is given

IV infusion, given by a healthcare professional. When your prescriber agrees it can be given at home, we send a skilled nurse from an accredited nursing agency to give it.

Infusion under the skin, with a small pump, given by a healthcare professional, or you or a caregiver after training. A nurse can show you or a caregiver how to give it.

Storage: Keep it in the refrigerator (36°F to 46°F) in its carton to protect it from light. You may keep it at room temperature (up to 77°F) for up to 6 months; after that, use it or throw it away. Do not freeze it.

Before you start

Before the first dose, your prescriber may ask for:

  • a blood test to check how well your kidneys work
  • for people at risk of thick blood (hyperviscosity), a blood test of how thick the blood is
  • if you are switching from treatment by vein to treatment under the skin, a blood test of your IgG antibody level

Important safety information: This medicine has a boxed warning about the risk of blood clots (thrombosis). It also warns about kidney problems, including kidney failure, with immune globulin given by vein.
