Ferrlecit (sodium ferric gluconate complex in sucrose)

Filled with a prescription and delivered free to your door, with help on prior authorization.

Ferrlecit is an iron replacement medicine given into a vein. It refills the body's iron, which the body needs to make hemoglobin (the part of red blood cells that carries oxygen).

MedRx Infusion can fill Ferrlecit with a prescription and deliver it free to your door.

What Ferrlecit is prescribed for

  • Iron deficiency anemia in chronic kidney disease on hemodialysis: adults and children 6 years and older with chronic kidney disease (CKD) on hemodialysis who also get epoetin (a medicine that helps the body make red blood cells).

A prescription is required. Your prescriber decides whether Ferrlecit is right for you.

How Ferrlecit is given

IV infusion, given by a healthcare professional.

The label covers people on hemodialysis, and Ferrlecit is given into a vein during dialysis sessions. Your prescriber and dialysis team decide where you get it.

Before you start

Before the first dose, your prescriber may ask for:

  • questions about any past reactions to iron given by vein or by shot
  • blood tests of your hemoglobin and iron levels; it is not given to people who already have too much iron (iron overload)

Read the Medication Guide and the full Ferrlecit prescribing information, and ask your prescriber or our pharmacists about side effects. Our pharmacists are on call 24 hours a day.

Insurance and prior authorization

Health plans often require prior authorization for Ferrlecit. Our intake team checks your coverage and works with your prescriber’s office on the paperwork before your first delivery.
