Daptomycin is an antibiotic (a medicine used to treat infections caused by bacteria) in a group called lipopeptides. It attaches to the outer covering (membrane) of certain bacteria and disrupts it, and the bacteria die.

MedRx Infusion can fill Daptomycin with a prescription and deliver it free to your door.

What Daptomycin is prescribed for

Complicated skin and skin structure infections: adults and children 1 to 17 years old with complicated skin and skin structure infections (serious infections of the skin and the tissue under it), including those caused by MRSA (a staph germ that resists many antibiotics).
Staphylococcus aureus bloodstream infections (bacteremia) in adults: adults with Staphylococcus aureus (staph) infections in the blood, including MRSA, and including right-sided infective endocarditis (an infection of the valves on the right side of the heart).
Staphylococcus aureus bloodstream infections (bacteremia) in children: children 1 to 17 years old with Staphylococcus aureus (staph) infections in the blood.

A prescription is required. Your prescriber decides whether Daptomycin is right for you.

How Daptomycin is given

IV infusion, given by a healthcare professional. When your prescriber agrees it can be given at home, we send a skilled nurse from an accredited nursing agency to give it.

Before you start

Before the first dose, your prescriber may ask for:

a lab test of a sample, such as blood or fluid from the infection (a culture), to find the germ and the antibiotics it is sensitive to
a blood test to check how well your kidneys work
